My iPhone’s battery started draining fast one day. Seemed like 10% per hour with most services turned off (Wifi off, GPS off, 3G off). The phone was physically warm to the touch too. This can’t be good. So, I backed up all my pics and prepared to do a factory reset / hard reset.
iPhone G3 Factory Reset:
1. Turn off iPhone - Hold down the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the red slider.
2. Press and hold down the Home button for about 10 seconds and plug the USB cable into your iPhone and computer. When following screen shows, release the button.
3. iTunes will prompt a message that says iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. Click OK.
4. Click on Restore.
And, wait. Hopefully this fixes the issues. I’ll post more later.
The problem ended up being a problem with SharePoint Alerts.
SharePoint alerts show up fine in Outlook and on the phone, but after downloading these alerts the iPhone will stop updating. This causes the battery to drain very quickly. Deleting the SharePoint alerts from my inbox (or move them to another folder) everything starts working immediately. Shoot, I was starting to like the heat it was producing in my pocket. :)
Workaround: Setup an Outlook rule which moves SharePoint alerts to another folder.
